On August 9 each year, our country celebrates Women’s Day, which commemorates the march that took place on the day women eventually took a stand against gender discrimination.
In honour of this, a very memorable Women’s Day Celebration was held at Dundee Junior School on Friday, August 11.
The event kicked off with an inspiring welcoming by Principal, Mr Maree, whose presentation catered for young and old alike.
Poetry recitals were delivered by some of the talented learners, Susan Gregory, Sejal Mughoo and Alica Saunders.
The girls stirred up many emotions with their enthusiastic performances. The Soul Buddyz, under the leadership of
Mrs Joubert and Mrs Chivers, entertained the audience with a fantastic play, depicting the many different roles that women of today play in our society, and how a mother’s choices and examples influence her daughter’s decisions in life.
The guest speakers, SGB Chairperson, Mrs Müller and DCES in Teacher Development of the Umzinyathi District Education Offices, Mrs Mhkize, spoke boldly about various issues that women face in life. They encouraged all women and girls to end the “girl-on-girl hate” and rather strive to uplift each other.
They also encouraged girls to love themselves and reminded them that they are smart, confident and beautiful. Their heartfelt messages were positively received.
The school would like to thank them for taking time from their busy schedules to deliver such inspiring messages.
After the formalities, all the ladies, which included mothers, grandmothers, ex-teachers and other invited guests from other schools, were spoilt with some delicious treats.
Dundee Junior School would like to thank each and every one of them for gracing the school with their presence.
