What to expect at the CanSA Relay for Life

Dress warmly, drinks lots of liquids (not alcohol) and walk as cancer fears the walker

With the Relay for Life drawing closer, September 2 and 3, here are some of the activities you can look forward to:

1. The official start and ribbon-cutting ceremony at 10am.
2. Caregivers’ lap at 10.10am.
3. Introduction to teams at 10.15am.
4. Survivor’s lunch and activities from 12pm.
5. Zumba at 4pm.
6. Fight Back Ceremony at 5pm.
7. Luminaria/ candle lighting ceremony between 7.30pm and 8pm.
8. Twins fireworks display at 8pm.
9. Relay for Life concludes at 10am on the 3rd with the presentation ceremony following.

In between there is an array of music, dance, entertainment and motivational talks.

The organising committee of 2017 CanSA Relay for Life – Estcourt have issued the following important information pertaining to the Relay:
The Relay is a smoke free, alcohol free and drug free event. All bags will be checked at the entrance and alcohol will be confiscated. Smokers will be fined.
All religions and cultures are crucial in the fight against cancer. No religion is given any preference. All religions must be respected.
After 8pm, no walk-ins will be allowed. Youngsters will not be allowed to stay overnight without parents present. Patrons without wristbands will be removed from the premises.
No fires to be lit in tents. Electricity will not be provided for teams.
Food must be covered at all times. Only official Relay music played by programme director will be allowed.
All teams must have a working fire-extinguisher.
Parking in the school premises is free to team members, officials and guests (green stickers) R50 per car if patron is not a guest, team member or guest.
There is only one paying entrance to the relay in- CANNA AVENUE- OPPOSITE THE TEMPLE.
Team captains must arrange banners, baton and have a health message.
Only one caregiver will be allowed to accompany survivors.

R1 000 will be given to the team to recruit the most number of blood donors.
These are made to make the Relay memorable for all walkers. We need the co-operation of everybody.
