Five die in Bergville head-on collision
The three occupants from the 4x4 were assessed and found to have sustained minor to moderate injuries
The R616 in Bergville was the scene of a tragic head-on collision, killing five people.
ER24 paramedics were alerted and arrived at the scene just after 6.30pm last night (Monday, September 4) along with other emergency services.
They reported that a light motor vehicle and 4×4 collided head-on and upon their arrival on scene they were met by two wrecked vehicles on the opposite sides of the road with bodies surrounding the light motor vehicle. The fatal accident also left three of the 4×4 occupants injured.
“Upon closer inspection, paramedics found the bodies of three men and two women lying outside the light motor vehicle. Paramedics assessed the patients and found that all five had sustained numerous fatal injuries and showed no signs of life,” explained ER24 spokesperson Russel Meiring.
Sadly, nothing could be done for them and were declared deceased on the scene.The three occupants from the 4×4 were assessed and found to have sustained minor to moderate injuries.
The three surviving patients were then treated for their injuries and thereafter taken to the Ladysmith Provincial Hospital for further medical care. Local authorities were also on scene for further investigations.
