Update: 5 dead in crash near Ladysmith (video included)
4 people were injured and treated at the scene before being transported to hospital
Five people tragically lost their lives in a head-on collision on the Bergville road last night (September 4). 2 light motor vehicles were involved in the crash.
Four people were critically injured and are fighting for their lives. They were treated at the scene before being transported to hospital for further medical attention.
The exact cause of the crash is unknown and the Pietermaritzburg Collision Unit is investigating the case.

The funeral details of the five deceased are as follows: Hoosen Khaliq Asmal and Mariam (Mana) Asmal will leave 18 Van Riebeeck Street. Ashraf Sayed Camroo and Hafez Ahmed Sayed Camroo will leave Agra Road. Ariyanah Akoo will leave 3 Milkwood. Janazah Namaaz will be performed after Zohr Namaaz (1.15pm) at Soofi Musjid, proceeding to Simla Road graveyard. The funerals will take place today (September 5).
RTI, forensic experts and other emergency officials were on scene.
It took officials hours to clear the scene.
Bystanders and family sadly looked on as officials went about their duties.
