Turning a dumping area into a park

Ward Four residents, in which the park is located, were urged not 'to dump in the new area but to take ownership of the park'.

An area in Sibongile that was previously used as a dumping site by residents has been transformed into a ‘green space’.
The new park-like surroundings were officially unveiled on Mabaso Street by Mayor, Richard Mbatha, Speaker Bongiwe Mbatha-Makhathini, other Councillors and officials last week.
Initiated by the Endumeni Municipality’s Disaster Management department, Mayor Mbatha said he hoped that the park ‘will serve as a symbol of respect for the environment and was also as a way of marking Arbor Month’.
The Mayor also planted a tree.
