Uthukela Cluster hosts medal parade in Ladysmith

Events such as these give recognition to members of the police service who serve the community loyally year after year

On Thursday, the Uthukela Cluster hosted a glittering medal parade at the Settlers Park grounds. The morning started out cool, which was a blessing for the 145 recipients, as well as their families and the organising committee.

The sun’s rays increased in intensity as the day went on, but this in no way diminished the enthusiasm of the audience or those taking part in the parade.

The police officers on parade looked stunning in their ceremonial dress, and were flanked by the SAPS band and an impressive drill platoon. The proud recipients were rewarded for service excellence, which included 10, 20 and 30-year service medals.

The medals were handed over by the Deputy Provincial Commissioner of Human Resource Management, Major General LN Ngembe, and the Cluster Commander of the Uthukela Cluster, Major General TE Gonya.

The dignitaries and recipients were treated to a sumptuous lunch after the event. Events such as these give recognition to members of the police service who serve the community loyally year after year.
