Devotees walk on fiery-hot coals and pray for rain in Ladysmith
This pooja is celebrated for revering God as the Divine Mother Durga
The Maha Durga Mundal held the Navarati Panchpooja on Saturday (September 30) at the Maha Durga Mundal, throughout the day and into the evening.
The Maha Durga Mundal held many prayers on the day, including the Hanuman Jhunda Pooja, Kalas Pooja, Devi Pooja, Agni Homa (which is the fire-lighting ceremony) and Inder Pooja (which is for rain).
Rain was seen falling this week in Ladysmith, interpreted by the devotees to mean that their prayers were answered.
Saturday afternoon saw the Rath Yathra and Devi Kalas, with the proceedings culminating in the Angi Darshan (fire-walking).
This pooja is celebrated for revering God as the Divine Mother Durga.
There was a very good turnout of devotees from Ladysmith and other towns around Northern Natal.
The Sri Siva Subramoniar Bhajan group from Newcastle is thanked for gracing the prayer with their presence at such short notice.
