
Two men were arrested after they were caught red-handed breaking into a business in the Mosque Parking Lot on Voortrekker Street on Saturday, September 30.
According to sources, members of Newcastle 911 Community Policing Forum noticed strange activities taking place in the parking lot while on routine patrols.
A call for backup was made, and the area around the parking was secured by members of the CPF.
Upon closer inspection, it was found the two suspects had been attempting to break into a shop.
One suspect was found in the shop’s ceiling and the other found on the roof. An additional three other suspects managed to flee the scene, and are currently still at large.
The SAPS arrested two suspects, who were believed to be foreign nationals.
Newcastle SAPS spokesperson, Captain Jabulani Ncube confirmed a case of business burglary was opened.
The two suspects, aged 24 and 33 years respectively, appeared in the Newcastle Magistrate’s Court on October 2, but the case was postponed pending further police investigations.
