Suspect arrest for possession of 60 parcels of Heroin

Members of the Amajuba Cluster Task Team arrested a 36-year-old man for being in possession of heroin on October 8.

Newcastle SAPS Corporate Communications and Liaison Officer, Captain Jabulani Ncube said the members received a tip-off informing them of a man who was selling drugs at the Jordan Parking Lot on Voortrekker Street.

“Warrant Officer Rose, Constables Thwala and Ndlovu spotted, stopped and searched the suspect, and found 60 parcels of heroin estimated at about R3 000 in his possession.”

The suspect will appear at the Newcastle Magistrate’s Court soon.

What is Heroin?

Heroin is believed to be most commonly used as a recreational drug because of its euphoric effects.

However, it is also used medically in several countries as a painkiller.

Heroin is usually injected into a vein, but it can also be smoked, snorted or inhaled, leaving heroin users with an onset effect [a rush] which would last for at least a few hours.

Common side-effects which occur in heroin users include the following:

Slowed breathing, dry mouth, euphoria, abscesses, infected heart valves, blood borne infections, constipation and even pneumonia.

What to look out for if you suspect your loved one is addicted to heroin:

– Needle marks and bruising at the injection sites,

– Skin problems like abscesses and infections,

– Shortness of breath

– Dry mouth

– Contracted pupils

– Sudden changes in behavior or actions

– Disorientation

– Droopy appearance.

Heroin, just like any other drug is dangerous and an over use of it could lead to death by overdose.
