Break-in at bank foiled

Officers gained entry to the bank premises in pursuit of the suspect who attempted to escape through a window

A 26-year-old man has been arrested after police found him inside a local bank during the early hours of this morning.

Police received an alarm activation from the bank, which is located in Harding Street.

“Officers rushed out to the scene where they noticed that the door of the premises had been damaged and quickly ascertained that there was a person inside the bank,” explained police spokesperson Captain Charmaine Struwig.

Officers gained entry to the bank premises in pursuit of the suspect who attempted to escape through a window.

The man was immediately arrested before he was able to remove anything from the bank.

“The suspect is due to make an appearance in the Estcourt Magistrate’s Court tomorrow where he faces a charge of house break-in,” added Captain Struwig.
