Suspected livestock thieves arrested by Upper Tugela police

The arrested suspects, aged 42, 45 and 53, appeared briefly in the Bergville Magistrate's Court on January 12 on charges of possession of suspected stolen stock and contravention of the Animal Diseases Act

Police pounced on three suspects believed to be in possession of stolen livestock.

This was while officers from the Upper Tugela policing area were conducting crime prevention activities.

Two light delivery vehicles loaded with sheep and goats crossed the officers path.

“A closer look at the animals and the occupants of the two vehicles revealed that they had no documentation with them for the animals.
The animals are believed to have been transported from across the Lesotho/South African border,” said police spokesperson Captain Charmaine Struwig.
