Drakensberg Secondary’s top performing stars sparkle at awards ceremony

The school wishes all the learners of 2017 the best of luck for the future and expresses its gratitude to all stakeholders

Drakensberg Secondary School was proud to boast their top five learners and acknowledge them for their outstanding performance in the 2017 National Senior Certificate (NSC) examination.

Their top performing candidate was a humble yet brilliant Tinita Pram achieving seven distinctions in English home language, Afrikaans, Mathematics, Life Orientation, Life Science, Physical Science and Accounting. Tinita was also placed fifth in the Uthukela district and first in the Wembezi Circuit. She plans on studying Veterinary Science at the University of Pretoria.

Following closely behind was an industrious worker Nokwanda Mabizela also attaining seven distinctions in the above subjects. She attributed her success to the Lord, her parents and educators and her dedication and perseverance. “Never settle for mediocrity” has been her policy. She will pursue her dreams in Accounting, achieving the highest mark in the grade (98 percent) in the subject.

Celine Sithole, raised by her elderly grandmother, a receptionist at Dr Chotoo, has faced various hurdles in life but she has prospered despite all adversity, obtaining six distinctions and securing her and uGogo’s dream to become a doctor at Wits University. The school wishes her all the best in the medical field.

Kayra Mathay was an unassuming girl who was the most pleasant surprise to all educators obtaining six distinctions. She has worked tirelessly and relentlessly and has truly done her parents, community and educators proud. She was also the best Life Orientation learner. Kayra is currently contemplating a career in pharmacy.

Ewonke Ndwandwe secured four distinctions in the NSC examination and was the top English learner. She plans on pursuing a career in the Accounting Field and is thankful to her school and family for the success she has acquired.
