A 26-year-old man appeared in the Ladysmith Magistrate’s Court on Monday (February 5) after being arrested for breaking into a vehicle and stealing a cell-phone in Princess Street.
He went to a house and requested assistance in the form of cash and also asked for a glass of water.
When the homeowner went into the house in order to bring him water, the suspect stole a cell-phone from the man’s vehicle and fled.

When the homeowner came back out and did not find the suspect, he immediately checked his vehicle. This is when he noticed that his cell-phone was gone. He set the ball in motion and the man was soon arrested by police.
The suspect claimed he had already sold the stolen cell-phone.
The suspect faces a charge of theft.
