Big celebrations take place at 5SAI army base in Ladysmith

Talks were given by Staff Sergeant Snaye Mkhulise about the history of the unit and the battlefield tour

5 South African Infantry (5SAI) Battalion celebrated 56 years of existence last week at the army base in Ladysmith.

They also had a reunion for former 5SAI members, some of whom have retired, and older members who are still serving in the force.

On Tuesday last week, they welcomed their guests at the unit and even gave them a tour of the entire base.

As part of the celebrations during the week, they also had a battlefield tour at Isandlwana and Rorke’s Drift.

A massive cake was cut by Brigadier General X Ndlovu, Mayor Vincent Madlala and LT Col NM Zama.

A large number of current and former 5SAI members attended and were all eager to join in on the celebrations.
