Kopleegte Primary opens doors to reading

Kopleegte Primary School opened the doors to its very own library recently

It was a day to remember at Kopleegte Primary – a rural school some 20 kilometres from Weenen.  On Saturday, and after many months of hard work, commitment and enthusiastic participation, the school opened the doors to its very own library.

What makes this an achievement for all concerned is that, sadly, libraries are a rarity in many rural schools. After an approach from the ever-enthusiastic Principal, Mr Mbona the project to establish a library at the school was adopted by Hazel Stanley of Sam-Lyn Edu Centre in Weenen.

Harnessing the expertise, support and acumen of a number of people and institutions, work began. A sizable crowd of parents, community members, educators, funders and a departmental official arrived in a festive mood at the school on Saturday for the library opening.

The success of the project proved yet again the value of a number of role-players working collectively towards a common goal. Sam-Lyn, in the guise of Les Stanley, Yolanda Sibisi, Tracey Usher-Jones and Hazel Stanley have played a major role, whilst Nikki Morris of The Stretch Foundation has been pivotal in securing funding for the project.

A select group of learners, parents and staff members from Treverton Preparatory School in Mooi River also played their part by partnering with all of the above. All of these individuals and institutions are thanked profusely for their various contributions.

Long may reading prosper at Kopleegte and may the children enjoy years of pleasure from their library!
