Is your car travel-ready for the long weekend ahead?
Motorists who are planning a trip for the long weekend, are urged to get their vehicles checked and serviced immediately.
There are an alarming number of collisions and fatalities on South African roads over long weekends.
Although there are many contributing factors, one of the known causes are vehicles which are not serviced or roadworthy.
Attempting to make a long trip in this sort of vehicle is dangerous to everyone on the road.
A tyre blow-out for example, can result in pieces of rubber flying up onto the road, hitting other vehicles and causing collisions as drivers swerve to avoid the debris.

Motorists planning a long weekend trip are urged to get their vehicles checked and serviced immediately.
“What motorists don’t realise is that should maintenance be needed on their vehicle and spare parts are not in stock, these need to be ordered. This could take several days, if they are available at all. It is risky leaving things to the last minute and could put a real damper on holiday plans.”
During a service, mechanics will do a thorough check of the vehicle, which includes a road test and an assessment of the following parts:
• Lights
• Suspension
• Drive lines
• Brakes
• Tyres, including the spare and tools
• Fluid levels
• Wipers and windscreen
• V Belts, and
• Exhaust.
If a problem is identified, the mechanic will be able to advise the vehicle owner and also provide a quote for repairs.
Motorists should always consult an accredited workshop.
