Councillor angered by dumping and burning of deity statues in Ladysmith

There were about four statues in a pile of rubbish, some of them broken

When IFP councillor Abbas Warasally was contacted by residents of Mosque Road because of illegal dumping in their street, little did he know what awaited him.

Visiting the affected area, he was left in shock as to what was dumped there.

He found Hindu deity statues dumped in a heap of dirt and baby nappies.

There were about four statues in a pile of rubbish, some of them broken.

He said the statues were also burnt and added that he is very disappointed in the community, who seem to have lost respect for their religion.

He makes a special appeal to the leaders of the Hindu community to please recover these statues and dispose of them in a dignified manner.
