Gourmands gather at Potjiekos Competition

As always, the Potjiekos Competition was one of the biggest highlights of the Winter Festival. At the end of the day, the De Meyer and Van Zyl-team's mutton potjie had judges in foodie heaven.

Lit camp fires, simmering pots and the mouthwatering aroma of potjiekos in the air was the perfect start to the weekend.

On April 28, visitors to the Newcastle Winter Festival got exactly that as they were welcomed by the smell of braaivleis fires and potjiekos, accompanied by good music and the friendly faces of the attendees during the Winter Festival’s Potjiekos Competition.

As always, the Potjiekos Competition was one of the biggest highlights of the Winter Festival. At the end of the day, the De Meyer and Van Zyl-team’s mutton potjie had judges in foodie heaven.

According to Henning de Meyer, one of the members of the winning team, the competition was not just about having fun or competing for the title of Potjiekos King and Queen, but also the perfect opportunity to give back to the community.

“We decided to make a big pot today, and donate it to La Gratitude home for the aged afterwards. It’s just nice to know we can make someone’s day better, while having fun,” explained de Meyer.
