Estcourt’s Jessica Sewraj is a Glow TV Mrs India SA finalist
The big day unfolds in Durban where the women will compete in an Eastern, Western and talent segment
Wife and mother of three, Jessica Sewraj is one of the select few who will have the honour of participating in a prestigious pageant.
The 36-year-old Forderville home executive who runs an IT business from home, has secured a top spot as a finalist in the national Glow TV Mrs India SA pageant, which will be held on August 25 at the Olive Convention Centre in Durban.

Bubbling with excitement, Mrs Sewraj says that after watching an advert on television and constant persuasion from her 11-year-old son Jeshiq, she decided to commit to entering the competition. She admits that apprehension set in at first.

“Although I have participated in pageants before, I put on weight and I would not even think of it,” Mrs Sewraj said.
Shrugging off these hurdles, Mrs Sewraj says with the unwavering support from her husband Ashiq and children aged 15, 11 and five, she has resolved to go on a diet until the competition.
The application process entailed sending a Curriculum Vitae, a motivation letter as well as photographs. After applying in April, Mrs Sewraj received the good news via a phone call. She was in the kitchen making roti when this happened; needless to say the rotis were discarded as rejoicing filled the home.
“I was very excited at being recognised. Being a home executive, you sit at home and don’t do much but we can still enjoy life. I want to show other home executives they can also step out of their comfort zones,” she said.
In the upcoming months in the run-up to the pageant, contestants will be required to fundraise R10 000 as well as host community fundraising events.
Mrs Sewraj says she plans to host events that cater for children with learning disabilities, which is her passion, working with the elderly as well as feeding programs in needy communities.
In June, the 20 finalists will put their culinary skills to the test at a cook-off at Cornubia Mall in Durban.
During the week leading up to the competition, all the finalists will spend a week with the judges where they will be assessed and marked.
The big day unfolds in Durban where the women will compete in an Eastern, Western and talent segment.
“For my talent segment I will do a dance that is a fusion of Hindi, Tamil and South African. This is after all what the Mrs India SA pageant is about, embracing all cultures,” she explained.
Exciting times lie ahead for the Sewraj family and they call on all locals to support them in this journey. You can keep up with Mrs Sewraj’s progress via her Facebook page – Jessica Sewraj Mrs India SA finalist.
