Indie pop duo from Ladysmith plan to set stages alight
In their respective teenage years, they picked up their favourite instruments - Vikshay the guitar and Vishekh the piano - and taught themselves how to play
The band ‘Ramdaz’ is a brother duo outfit from Ladysmith that has become very successful in South Africa.
The brothers who make up Ramdaz are Vikshay (25) and Vishekh (21) Ramdaas.
Both grew up in the small town of Ladysmith.
In their respective teenage years, they picked up their favourite instruments – Vikshay the guitar and Vishekh the piano – and taught themselves how to play.
They both attended Ladysmith High School (LHS), where they matriculated.
They have one thing in common; their love of music and wanting to share this love with the world.
Ramdaz started as a cover band in late 2016, covering songs of other artists, but the brothers eventually wanted to move on to creating their own music.
Ramdaz are signed to South Africa’s leading independent record label, Just Music, who have a roster filled with both local and international stars such as Adele, Bon Iver, Matthew Mole and so on.
The duo signed in February 2017.
They were handpicked by the Just Music label manager after hearing a few of their demos in early 2016. One of the said demos was a rougher version of their debut single ‘Let Me In’.
With the music industry in South Africa growing like never before, Ramdaz are looking to cement their place as one of the country’s best indie pop acts.
The duo are always experimenting with new sounds and taking risks as their music evolves. “Evolution is a necessity as a species, and more so for bands and artists. Something that a lot of people notice about us is that we’re always evolving our sound and changing our style to keep up with this beautiful, yet challenging industry.
“We’re actually known for taking risks with our sound. We want people to not only enjoy our sound, but to relate to the lyrics and stories we tell with our music – we’re all about lyrics,” say the brothers.
As a live act, Ramdaz’s goal is to play not only the major festivals in the country but also to one day share their music with the world and play international festivals, waving their hometown Ladysmith’s flag high.
