Five accused of kidnapping a Peacevale teenager on the night of May 5 made their second appearance in the Dundee Magistrate’s Court on Friday.
Hamu Chabe (35), Ziuana Gonte (30), Enock Machauhunkie (23), David T Machavunga (24) and Abraham Nyemukuse (26) are accused of forcing the 15-year-old boy into their car and taking him to Ladysmith where has kept in a basement for two nights.
His mother was contacted and a ransom was demanded other he would ‘be cut and sent to her doorstep’. She did make at least two deposits into a Spar instant money account and Pick n Pay. The teenager later managed to escape from the basement after the men fled from the scene after withdrawing the money.
They were later arrested in Cape Town following an intelligence driven operation.
The case was postponed to June 1 for a bail application. The prosecutor advised the accused that the state needs to contact Home Affairs n to find out whether their visas are valid. The accused are orginally from Zimbabwe and if their visas are not valid, they will be charged with being in the country illegally.
