Bottling business helps clean up Ladysmith after municipal strike

Over 120 local employees put on their gloves and picked up trash that has piled up throughout town since the recent municipal strike

Coca-Cola Beverages South Africa (CCBSA) hosted a clean-up campaign on Friday in the CBD.

Over 120 local employees put on their gloves and picked up trash that has piled up throughout town since the recent municipal strike.

For the CCBSA team, the Ladysmith CBD is a key focus, with a total of around 300 outlets that are being serviced by the business.

Many areas of town did not have waste collected during the recent municipal strike, causing refuse to pile up.

CCBSA corporate social investment specialist Samukelo Nkosi said, “As a business, it is important for us to support our customers and the communities at times like these. The volunteers split into teams to cover various areas such as Acaciavale, Forbes Street, the Macksons area, Wimpy Park and Settlers Drive.”

The teams cleaned up all the rubbish at the roadside and even on the roads by picking it up and loading it into their trucks.

The roads and sidewalks were swept clean.

With this initiative, CCBSA aimed to get the town back to its normal state, which they successfully achieved in the areas they focused on.
