The students showed up in their numbers last Wednesday morning at Princess Park armed with placards and banners. One of the placards read: “No money leads to starvation.”

The students marched from the park to the college where they handed over a memorandum of their grievances to a representative from the Department of Higher Education and Training.

Some of the issues the students have, according to the memorandum, are out-dated textbooks, shortage of lecturers, they no longer want to be taught in prefab classes and they want more recognition from businesses once their courses are complete.

The students hope to be enlightened on how much funds are allocated per term for accommodation, meal allowances and transport.

With many of the students coming from disadvantaged backgrounds and from out of town, another other pressing problem is the National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) not paying them on time.

Due to this the students become homeless, go hungry and sometimes the situation forces them to drop out of the college.
