Drakensberg Boys’ Choir to be part of World Choir Games held in Tshwane
The Drakensberg Boys' Choir is competing in this competition for the first time

The Drakensberg Boys’ Choir (DBC) played to audiences throughout Gauteng recently and showed the world that they are indeed ready for the World Choir Games (the ‘Olympics for Choirs’) to be held in Tshwane in July this year.
The event, also known as the “Olympic Games of Choral Music”, is organised by INTERKULTUR, the leading organiser of international choir competitions and festivals since 1988 and celebrates its 10th jubilee edition in Tshwane this year, a first for the African Continent.
The 10th biennial World Choir Games is taking place from July 4 to 14 in Pretoria. It is the first time ever that the event will be hosted on African soil.
The World Choir Games are the Olympic Games of choral music, with their aims and objectives to showcase, preserve and celebrate the art of choral music across the globe by honouring practitioners and other role players in this music genre.
After two decades, the event provides arguably the largest cross-cultural exchange platform in the world.
The Champions Competition is designed for experienced choirs that have already proven their level of proficiency at other international competitions. The winners will be awarded Golden, Silver and Bronze medals, and each category winner gets the title and trophy “Champion of the World Choir Games 2018”.

In the World Choir Games – The Champions Competition, the choir receiving the Gold Medal with the most points will be awarded the title “Champion of the World Choir Games”. The title can only be given to one choir per category. In the case of a tie, the jury will determine which choir will be the “Champion of the World Choir Games”.
The Drakensberg Boys’ Choir is competing in this competition for the first time. In fact, the DBC haven’t competed in a competition since 1983. They look forward to welcoming hundreds of choirs from over 44 countries to our country, along with 147 other South African choirs.
The spirit of the event is firmly rooted in the promotion of world peace.
Good luck to the DBC, who are there to show the world what they can do on stage!
