Local horse trainer shares knowledge on Vodacom Durban July

With 18 horses set to race, many are anticipating which horse will come out on top

The Vodacom Durban July is taking place tomorrow (July 7) and many people are already catching “July Fever”.

With 18 horses set to race, many are anticipating which horse will come out on top.

“It’s years of work. Like many other competitions such as show jumping or dressage, training is important. I only deal with dressage and show jumping and not specifically horse racing,” says local horse trainer Suuzanne Schreuder-Prentis from Stal Epona Horse Riding School.

“I deal more in dressage, show jumping and teaching people to ride horses, but I can say that race horses are often kept and trained from quite a young age in racing stables while jockeys go off to jockey school to train.”

She adds that bloodline also plays a role in the winning chances of a horse.

“If the parents were good racehorses, then there is a chance that you have a good racehorse on your side.”
