Local mines joined forces with the Dannhauser municipality and Barbara Thompson, Deputy Minister in the Department of Environment Affairs, in donating five houses and other much-needed items to deserving families.
Zinoju and Ikwezi mines also handed out 5 000 school shoes to 13 local schools while identifying families that were given groceries, toiletries, heaters, microwave ovens and blankets. Co-operatives received garden tools and bins.

Deputy Minister Thompson reminded guests at the handover that talking about Mandela Day ‘is not enough’. “This is why we have partnered with the Dannhauser municipality and mines to make a difference in the lives of the needy.”
Mayor Jabu Phakathi thanked all the local mines who had contributed in making the lives of the people better. She said the mines are helping youth with learnership and job placements.
Duan de Villiers, Ikwezi general manager, said his company was honoured to be part of a remarkable day that changed peoples’ lives and brought tears to the eyes of the recipients.
