The uThukela strike that began on Friday, August 3, is now over.
According to uThukela spokesperson Jabulani Mkhonza, “The strike action by uThukela District municipal workers has come to an end, as the employer and employees have reached an amicable agreement. The areas that were impacted by water cuts will be back to their normal operations. Limehill, Ezakheni, Ekuvukeni, Ladysmith and all other areas will start operating as normal.
“The Tugela Estate problem has been fixed as well. At Loskop, work is still in progress. All areas that are being serviced by water tankers will start operating as normal again.”
On Friday last week, workers “downed tools” and protested outside the municipal offices.
The strikers were demanding that all temporary staff become permanent, and those who are drivers and plumbers get paid correctly according to the pay structure in the municipality.

They also demanded good vehicles to transport staff, as they said workers cannot sit in vehicles loaded with plumbing tools.
Water disruptions occurred in various parts of town due to the strike.
Mkhonza added that the district municipality wishes to pass its sincere apologies to all communities affected by the water cuts due to the strike.
