Ladysmith Secondary School cooks up a storm

They had 2 hours in which to prepare their chosen dishes and thereafter plate and garnish or decorate their completed meals and desserts using appropriate cutlery and crockery

Last week Wednesday, it was all systems go at Ladysmith Secondary School (Lasec) for their dynamic and culinary chefs. Six students currently doing Consumer Studies in Grade 12 engaged in their final practical moderation which commutates a percentage towards their final National Senior Certificate examination to be held in October.

The learner under the guidance of their educator, Mr K Bihaspat prepared gourmet and appetising meals ranging from a variety of starters, themed oriented cuisine dishes, simple and indulgent desserts and creative refreshments made by each student. They had 2 hours in which to prepare their chosen dishes and thereafter plate and garnish or decorate their completed meals and desserts using appropriate cutlery and crockery.

Subject Advisor, Miss RB Xulu presented herself on the day of the examination and personally tasted each student’s prepared meals assessing their table setting as well as taste, texture and flavour.

Each learner also had the opportunity to serve and showcase his/her hospitality skills as they answered questions prepared on the ingredients and techniques associated with their meals. Miss Xulu was very impressed and congratulated all the learners for their outstanding achievement.

Mr Bihaspat would like to thank each parent /guardian for supporting the students’ initiative as well as preparing and assisting the school to make this practical assessment a success.
