KFC Mini Cricket has become one of the largest development programmes in the country.
Coordinator for Newcastle, Rishi Nanan said the initiative was an essential part of teaching cricket skills, adding the goal of the festival was to see the children getting more active.
Saturday’s proceedings certainly delivered on the action.
Matches were played under spotlights as afternoon turned to evening, and organisers said this made the Mini Cricket event different and far more enjoyable to the children.
“It’s all about having fun. At the same time, it’s about seeing children apply their cricket skills on the field and interacting with other schools, while making new friends.”
At the conclusion of the festival, young and budding cricketers were given T-shirts and certificates to acknowledge their participation and reward their efforts.

“A special thank you to the main sponsor, KFC, our local sponsors on the night, coordinators from the KZN Inland Cricket Union and the organising committee, because without their involvement, the festival wouldn’t have been possible,” Nanan concluded.
