Magot River corpse may be linked to missing Glückstadt woman

There could be a link between a missing person in Glückstadt and the partially decomposed remains of a woman found on the banks of the Magot River last week.

POLICE are believed to be investigating a link between a missing person in Glückstadt and the partially decomposed remains of a woman found in a crevice on the banks of the Magot River last week.

The gruesome discovery was made last week Wednesday morning by a man who was walking his dog in the area and reported his grisly find to local police. Vryheid detectives, along with Officer Chris van Eck of the K9 Unit and a forensic crew attended the scene and recovered the woman’s remains from the enclosed space where she was found.

The decomposing body was wedged into a fairly small obscured space beneath the long grass, barely visible but for her shoes and the navy blue jacket that she was wrapped in.

As she was lifted out of the space and laid out on the banks, the level of decomposition and the presence of live maggots revealed that her lifeless body had, in all likelihood, been hidden there and undiscovered for approximately a week.

The deceased is believed to be between the ages of thirty and forty years old and her cause of death has not yet been confirmed.
