Much-talked-about Nyusi Volume music concert cancelled for this year

Council has been criticised on hosting this event based on the after-effects of the concert

The Nyusi Volume music concert will not be held this year.

According to Alfred Duma Municipality spokesperson Siyabonga Maphalala, council has been criticised in the past on hosting this event, based on after-effects such as traffic congestion, crime, theft and misbehaviour of attendees.

There has been an agreement between UKhozi FM and the municipality to partner in hosting this event annually in the previous term of office, which is currently being reviewed by Municipal Manager SS Ngiba in liaison with the relevant stakeholders.

This event brought UKhozi FM personalities and well-known TV personalities, artists and socialites to Ladysmith.

Economically, the event boosted hospitality, accommodation, liquor and refreshment retailers, as well as the informal traders and local artists who participated in the activities.

However, at this stage, Municipal Manager SS Ngiba, as the Accounting Officer, has taken a decision in liaison with council leadership not to host the event this year.

Maphalala adds that an estimated R1 million will be saved through this decision, which will be diverted to service delivery projects aligned to the Municipal Thuma Mina Programme.
