Airport project comes in to land

The municipality will pay sub-contractors on the Newcastle Airport Terminal Building project.
According to an official source, municipal representatives met with the project’s main contractor on Monday to iron out ongoing legal matters.
“The contractor signed a cession to pay the subcontractors because he wasn’t doing so.”
With the building portion of the project reportedly due to wrap up soon, what remained was marking of the runway and the procurement of services providers for the coffee shop and fuel depot.
The coffee shop tender is said to be going out this week.

We are trying to fast-track it by getting an experienced person in.”
Since the municipality intervened in the terminal building project, it has held meetings between its legal team, consultants and the contractor to finalise processes. This should pave the way for Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) accreditation.
“Every day we are getting advice from CAA.” A final hurdle before SA Airlink came in to land was the installation of a GPS navigation system, priced at a hefty R250,000.
“We have received funding from the province.
“We need that device for planes to land at night, in the early morning, during mist or in bad weather.”
