The victim sustained two bullet wounds before he managed to get away.
A case of attempted murder is being investigated by Vryheid’s Organised Crime Unit after a man was shot on the corner of Boeren and East Streets over the weekend.
Police reports indicate that a friend of the victim had asked him to collect money that was owed to him at the Boeren and East Street intersection at 6pm that evening.

“He waited at the intersection until a black vehicle approached. He then informed the driver that his friend had requested that he collect the money on his behalf. The driver motioned for him to collect the money from the passenger side of the vehicle. When he was at the front passenger door, they opened fire,” said Vryheid SAPS communications officer, Captain Cheryl Venter.
The victim sustained two bullet wounds, one to the chest and one to the upper arm, before he managed to get away, fleeing to the nearby Engen filling station for assistance.
