According to Mr Ephraim from Ezemvelo KwaZulu-Natal Wildlife, Winterton police called him yesterday after they received a bizarre call.

“A young man reported that a lion chased him. This was on the gravel road between Winterton to Colenso,” said Mr Ephraim.

When he arrived here, there was no sign of the lion. When speaking to the Estcourt News this morning, Mr Ephraim said that he was on his way to the area for a second look.

“It is impossible to tell where the lion could have come from. I have contacted the only game reserve in the area that has lions and they have confirmed that all of their lions are accounted for,” added Mr Ephraim.

Locals are urged to be cautious if driving or walking in the area.

If you spot the lion, please contact Mr Ephraim on 083 591 8907 or Anthony on 082 805 3508. Yesterday the lion was spotted between Bergsig School and Jollian Reeve.
