Update: Dreadful accident on Victoria Street
Horrified witnesses tried to alert the truck driver

New information has been revealed following Wednesday evening’s horrific death of a person who became entangled with a parked truck which was then driven up Victoria Street.
A witness, who initially contacted the Courier, said the victim, who was decapitated, was a woman. However, security officials from Nembile. who were on the scene on Victoria Street at around 9.25pm, confirmed that the person who died was in fact a male.
It appears as if the truck, carrying logs, had parked near Lewis Stores. The victim must have lying or sitting near the wheels when the truck started up and drove up Victoria Street, towards the Gladstone Street intersection. The man was dragged behind the truck and was decapitated as horrified passers-by tried in vain to alert the truck driver.
The truck did eventually stop for a short while after the remains of the body fell on to the middle of the road on the FNB corner. The truck driver then took off again.
Emergency services were on the scene. Victoria Street, from King Edward Street to Gladstone Street, was closed while waiting for a mortuary van to remove the body.
