Young artist’s drawing steals first place

Shriyaal’s globe concept included a cruise liner named ‘The Harmony of the Seas’ built using ArcelorMittal steel narrative.

An imaginative, colourful, pencil crayon drawing, encapsulating the ‘Beauty of Steel’ ensured budding artist, Shriyaal Siveraj (8) a first place in the Newcastle leg of the ArcelorMittal e-card Competition recently.

Shriyaal’s globe concept including the drawing of a cruise liner named ‘The Harmony of the Seas’ supposedly built using ArcelorMittal steel, captured the eye of the judges who felt it linked closely with the theme ‘The Beauty of Steel’.

Joe Nowbath, Manager of Socio- economic Development and Transformation Centre of Excellence, said ArcelorMittal hosts an annual global drawing competition in which the children of AMSA employees aged between
six and 14 years, are encouraged to put their drawing skills to the test and design an e-card, which could ultimately become the card that AMSA utilizes for the festive season.

“A winner is chosen from each business unit, then from these a national winner is selected. The national winning entry is then sent to Luxembourg where the best card is chosen.”

Unfortunately creative Shriyaal’s drawing did not go through to nationals but mum, Shavina Siveraj, a commercial specialist at AMSA is still very proud of her son’s talent as is dad, Shawn.

“He really put so much thought and planning into his picture. As young as he may be, he is very goal-orientated. He is highly motivated so we as parents just need to help him achieve his goals and dreams in life,” they commented lovingly.
