New ANC councillors sworn in
“Council welcomes the newly appointed councillors.”
The African National Congress has sworn in two new councillors.
During a Special Council Meeting in October, the party inducted two new party representative (PR) councillors, Dr Nkulukelo Godfrey Mahlaba and Vuyani Gift Zondo.
Magistrate Kamlesh Gurlal presided over this process.
Cllr Zondo (right) replaced the outgoing Nomathamsanqa Kunene after her resignation, while Dr Mahlaba replaced Dr Nompumelelo Mbatha (left), who has taken up a post as Strategic Executive Director for Corporate Services at Newcastle Municipality.
Dr Mahlaba is also the Chairman of the ANC’s Regional Executive Committee in the Emalahleni Region.
According to the municipality, both councillors swore under oath ‘to serve the community without fear or favour’, and promised to carry forward the mandate given to them by council and be in line with the vision of the municipality.
