Foster families to enjoy cook off today

Patricia said there had been 'lots of support for the project' since the publicity in the Courier and she thanked all those businesses who have come forward to assist.

Cooking brings families together. And so it will be for foster children and foster parents who, today, will compete in a cook-off to qualify for a master chef competition.
Hosted by the Christelike Maatskaplike Diens (CMD), the trials will be held at the NG Church Hall on Willson Street from 1pm on Friday, November 16.
Patricia Zoya and Dawn Penny of the CMD, Dundee, said families will prepare a dish at home and bring it to the hall where a panel of judges will select the top five to go through to the cook-off.
“The families are encouraged to prepare their foster child’s favourite dish but it does not have to be only that. We have a panel of qualified judges who will taste and judge the food,” said Patricia.
The final will be held in the same venue on November 30. But this time the finalists will have to prepare a meal from scratch in the hall.
“The finalists will be given ovens etc. and all the equipment to make their dish from a prepared menu. Again, the judges will decide and the winner will enjoy a free Wimpy breakfast for the family.”
Patricia said there had been ‘lots of support for the project’ since the publicity in the Courier and she thanked all those businesses who have come forward to assist.
Members of the public are welcome to support both events – for details contact Patricia or Dawn at the CMD offices, 71 Willson Street, or Tel: 034 212 1100.
