LETTER: Newcastle Airport will put town on the national map

'Certainly, I can see the an amazing future for Newcastle when the airport runways are ready for taxiing!'

The completion of the Newcastle Airport seems imminent, or am I being too positive in this regard?

Damn, but capital projects seem to take simply ages to reach the stage when use can be made of the promised facilities. Certainly, I can see the an amazing future for Newcastle when the airport runways are ready for taxiing!

Imagine the work opportunities that will be created in the various service industries that provide the daily necessities for hotels, bed and breakfasts and conference centres.

To be borne in mind of course, for the airport to benefit us and generate a lucrative future, the cost of getting here will need to be financially viable.

The cost of flying will need to be both accessible to the pocket of the man in the street and allow the airline working the route, to have a reasonable profit margin. Let’s see how this goes.
