WATER WOES: Will Newcastle’s taps run dry? – (VIDEO)

With the Buffalo River diminishing by the day, residents have been called on to save water or risk having our taps run dry.

Newcastle could be heading for water restrictions.

Without decent rains in the Buffalo River catchment area, water rationing may well be on the cards.

Could our taps run dry soon?

While the verdict is out for now, residents have been urged by the municipality to use water sparingly.

Statistics perhaps tell a better story of looming drought conditions.

The Ntshingwayo (Chelmsford) Dam, a main source for the Ngagane Water Plant, is at 74.69 per cent capacity as of Wednesday, as compared to three months ago when the dam was 86.07 per cent full.

This is according to the Department of Water and Sanitation’s regular operations report.

Be sure to pick up next week’s edition of the Newcastle Advertiser for more on this controversial issue.
