Iconic Harleys enjoy long ride into Dundee
Most Chapters hold monthly meetings, organise regular recreational and touring rides and participate in fundraising activities.
From its humble beginnings at the beginning of the 20th century, the Harley Davidson motorcycle has become the most iconic and recognised motorcycle brand to date.
Having survived two World Wars, the Great Depression, several ownership changes and competition from a plethora of other companies, Harley Davidson has remained to be as tough as its aluminum wheels.
Riders from the Johannesburg chapter of the Harley Owners Group (HOG) rode into Dundee recently, where they were accommodated at Amabutho Warrior Lodge, who ensured the visitors were well received.
Dean Addison, of the Chapter, said the group of around 28 bikers had to complete a 1000km run from Johannesburg to Durban.
Starting at 4.55am, the route was a roundabout one that went through Ermelo, Pongola, Richards Bay, Melmoth, Vryheid and Dundee.
Since it was formed in 1983 by the Harley-Davidson Motor Company, membership of the Harley Owners Group has grown to over a million members around the world, and 110,000 members in Europe, Middle East and Africa.

AmaButho Warrior Lodge staff, Cherice Basdau and Marie van Rooyen, enjoyed a close up look of one of the iconic Harley Davidsons.
As well as joining the national H.O.G organisation, members have the option to join their local H.O.G. Chapter as well.
Each Chapter is sponsored by the local Harley-DavidsonĀ® dealer, allowing a ‘close to the customer’ approach and the opportunity for H.O.G. members to meet fellow enthusiasts, as well as to participate in the numerous Chapter activities.
Most Chapters hold monthly meetings, organise regular recreational and touring rides and participate in fundraising activities.
The Muscular Dystrophy Campaign has been the charity of choice since H.O.G.’s inception, but most Chapters raise funds for a variety of local community needs by a variety of methods, including fundraising rallies and Toy Runs.
Chapters are invited to join in friendly competitions with each other at national and international H.O.G. rallies and events.
There are currently around 1,500 H.O.G. Chapters around the globe.
