Vintage athlete grits his teeth for his 100th parkrun

Norman and his wife Ann joined the Grey Goose parkrun in March of 2016, doing the full five kilometres in a bid to keep fit and healthy.

The Vintage Parkrunner has claimed his 100th chequered flag.

85-year-old Norman Brown joined parkrun’s 100 club on November 9, completing his 100th runs at the Grey Goose Game Lodge, an accolade which took him under three years to achieve.

Speaking about his 100th parkrun event Norman said, “It was tough because the sciatic nerve in my leg was hurting. It wasn’t as easy for me.”

Gritting his teeth despite the pain, the Vintage Parkrunner still crossed the finish line in under an hour, where he was met by jubilant friends, family and supporters.

He was congratulated and photographed with a commemorative flag. Described by many as a role model, Norman has since completed his 101st Grey Goose parkrun but admitted aiming for 150 was a step too far for him.

“I’m too old for that,” he laughed. “At 85, I’ve done well.”

Previously, they said they enjoyed meeting people they knew.

“I enjoy meeting people and the social aspect. We have breakfast afterward and it’s more of an outing for us.”
