Overflowing Paddadam predicts ominous warning for AbaQulusi
"We always moan when the ALM does something wrong, so it is only fair to congratulate them when they do something right."
“PADDADAM is flooding over,” announced Doug Grewar on a social media post in the Paddadam Association Facebook page last week.
“There must be a major pipe burst in the main water supply line from Bloemveld Dam. The ALM better close off the tap at Bloemveld before the dam gets empty,” was the ominous warning.
Not long after, Doug’s words rang true and, once again, AbaQulusi’s taps ran dry as many residents found themselves facing what was described as an “unknown period of time” without water, due to a main water pipe from the reservoir that had allegedly burst and would require tackling some treacherous terrain to repair.

The question was raised that, if the problems at Klipfontein had been resolved since the debacle of the faulty pump then why would a burst pipe from Bloemveld dam leave the town without water?
At this point, Ward 9 Councillor, Alta de Kock was able to respond, “Klipfontein is working fine. It is the pipe from the reservoir that is leaking.”

As it turned out, the foreboding time frame, “an unknown period of time”, wasn’t as long as most people had expected and, last Saturday afternoon, at approximately 4pm, we bumped into Gert Fray at the Paddadam, who reported that the water had been restored and things would be back to normal within a few hours.
“Well done, ALM,” exclaimed Grewar. “We always moan when the ALM does something wrong, so it is only fair to congratulate them when they do something right.”
