African Rock Python rescued by local snake expert

Fanie received 5 different calls from residents, as well as the police, saying there was a massive snake in the area

An African Rock Python was rescued on Tuesday night (November 27)  by local snake expert Fanie Cilliers.

The snake was spotted by the Mposula family who live in the Esidakeni area of Ezakheni. The python had killed two chickens at the farmstead.

Fanie received five different calls from residents, as well as the police, saying there was a massive snake in the area.

Residents pleaded with Fanie to come and remove the snake, as they know he no longer goes out due to the costs involved.

Fanie, out of the goodness of his heart, took a drive late on Tuesday night to find the snake.

Fanie says, “I went to safely find the snake and relocate it at a private game reserve near Ladysmith, as the last one was brutally killed by residents.”

On arrival, he recalled that he had removed four other African Rock Pythons from the very same farmstead.

Constable Shezi and Mbasela from Ezakheni police station met Fanie at the service station in Pieters and directed him to the house where the snake was.

Fanie safely removed the python with no harm to anyone. It will be released at a private game reserve so that it will be away from people and also have a sufficient food source.
