Further water restrictions imposed as drought bites

'The rain we have had so far has had no effect on the dam or river levels, the levels are decreasing rapidly''

Further water restrictions have been implemented as the drought continues to bite.

Nomonde Nzimakwe, of Umzinyathi District Municipality, said everyone needs ‘ to jointly act and immediately implement water restrictions failing which we are going to run short of a sustainable water supply’.

“Following the water restrictions that were put in place in mid-November 2018 for the Endumeni area, after several discussions concerning the very hot and dry conditions, and the low level of the Buffalo River and local dams and the fact that the seasonal rains have not occurred, we are forced to implement further restrictions.”

A restricted 30% bulk water supply from the Biggersberg plant from will be in place from 9pm to 4am daily and from 10am to 2pm daily.

Again, it will be the ‘upper’ parts of the municipal area – in Dundee the area past Pro Nobis and above – that will face a cut off while the lower parts will receive a supply thanks to the natural gradient flow of the system.

“The situation will be monitored closely and communities are urged to use water sparingly as the drought is not over yet. The rain we have had so far has had no effect on the dam or river levels, the levels are decreasing rapidly. Water is life! Save Water Now!,” Nomonde concluded.
