Hospital will not turn anyone away, says spokesman
"We do check all those notes and undertake to respond and resolve complaints within 25 days."
Dundee Hospital is currently understaffed with just four doctors available, but every effort is being made to treat all patients timeously and with care.
So says Hospital Public Relations Officer, Sbonelo Dube. Mr Dube was reacting to complaints from members of the public who said recently there were long queues at the outpatients’ department.
Mr Dube said the Hospital was very responsive to complaints and suggestions. “We are short staffed with only four doctors, two clinic assistants and two community service volunteers. However, we do not turn anyone away. Should there still be people in the queue after office hours, these patients will be treated in the casualty department.”
Mr Dube said there were suggestions boxes on the hospital premises where members of the public could drop off suggestions, complaints or even compliments.
“We do check all those notes and undertake to respond and resolve complaints within 25 days.”
Mr Dube added that two doctors – Dr Ncube and Dr Gumbi – had passed on this year and this had put the hospital under further strain.
Dr Ncube drowned when his vehicle was washed away on the Ngisane Road during the January 25 deluge.
“Short listings have been done and it is hoped that we can at least fill these two posts,” Mr Dube told the Courier.
