MEC hands over homes to those in need
The visit entailed a hand-over of 2 houses to beneficiaries

The MEC for the Department of Public Works & Human Settlements in KwaZulu-Natal, Mr Ravi Pillay, visited Okhahlamba Local Municipality to launch the Dukuza A Rural Housing Project in Ward 4 last Tuesday.
The visit entailed a hand-over of two houses to beneficiaries. One of the recipients, Mr Dhlomo, is a disabled person and the house was modified to accommodate his needs.
This house was one of two paraplegic-friendly houses in the project and these are unique in their design.
Thereafter, the MEC and the municipality’s Traditional Authority Ndabezitha Hlongwane, Deputy Mayor TG Ngozo and Speaker SA Zulu engaged with the local community at an event which was held at the Dukuza sports ground.
The event was attended by over 1000 people, which included community members and multi-party stakeholders.
The Dukuza A Rural Housing Project is an initiative driven through the municipality’s housing unit and was approved by the Provincial Department in December 2015.
The development will consist of 40-square-metre houses with VIP toilets and rainwater harvesting. In total, 500 households will benefit as a result of this housing project.
In response to President Cyril Ramaphosa’s call in the State of the Nation Address earlier this year, the municipality says that in early 2019, they will be issuing 187 Title Deeds for the Zwelisha-Nhlanhleni Housing Project as part of the municipality’s Thuma Mina Housing Programme.
“We would like to extend our gratitude to the MEC and the Department of Public Works & Human Settlements for the support they have given us (the municipality) through our housing projects.”
