We’re mid-way through the warm summer season and the Estcourt public pools remain closed. Local swimmers are keen to dive into the cool waters and shrug off the heat but delays have firmly doused these dreams.
At the end of October, Inkosi Langalibalele Local Municipality informed locals via an article in the newspaper that both the Hilldene Swimming Pool and Bert Tucker Swimming Pool will remain closed until certain essential chemicals have been procured.

It’s more than a month later and on Monday afternoon, both pools were still closed to the public.
On November 23, the Estcourt News inquired from the municipality about the progress of procuring the chemicals and when residents can expect the pools to re-open.
Not a word has been conveyed about this saga and locals are beginning to question the real reasons for the delay.
Sbongakonke Nzimande recently wrote to the Estcourt News saying: “How long does it take to get this procurement for chemicals for the pool in order for it to be reopened? Does it cost millions of rands since it’s taking forever? That’s what the municipality should answer and put the communities in a clear picture of what is happening.”
Unfortunately again there has been no response from Inkosi Langalibalele Local Municipality.

Another resident who livers close to Hilldene Swimming Pool noted that a number of people are parking outside the pool and leaving behind large volumes of litter.
