The history of the Kings Group
Solely family-owned, the business comprises nine family members who are directly involved in the day-to-day running of its operations.
Almost four and a half decades ago, Tollie and Malie Willemse made the decision to purchase the King’s Hotel on the corner of Hardwick and Harding Streets.
This would be the first step towards creating an empire with a name now synonymous with Newcastle business, the Kings Group. As the town grew both economically and socially, thanks to the booming steel industry, the hotel and the off-sales divisions gained momentum.
This in turn provided job opportunities for the family and one-by-one, each member invested their expertise and talent into the business.
Today, the Kings Group stands as a familiar brand not only in Newcastle but also in surrounding areas in KwaZulu-Natal.
