The festive season brought more faults than favours

With an influx of visitors during the holiday period, did you cringe with shame or proudly show off your town? A drive through the central business district (CBD) and residential areas showed more faults than favours.

Some of the service delivery festive season failures centre on:

Delayed refuse removal; resulting in piled and rotting rubbish left on sidewalks for days, gaping potholes in almost every street in Estcourt – and more popping up close to busy shopping centres – and the verges that are starting to soar skyward.

Estcourt News asked Inkosi Langalibalele Local Municipality about their plan of action during the festive season and according to the response from Municipal Manager Patrick Mkhize, although it may not appear like it, municipal staff have been keeping up with service delivery.

Working conditions during the festive season is one of the reasons that delays have been experienced, although Mr Mkhize says that the standard refuse collection schedule was adhered to.

“Some areas are still affected by garden and domestic waste that was left behind due to miscommunication. The municipal refuse compactor is now operational and all areas will be serviced as per our standard collection schedule,” said Mr Mkhize.

Residents are encouraged to abide by the refuse collection days in the area. Grass trimming started in December and Mr Mkhize lists several areas including residential and recreational areas that were tended to.

There is no mention about when other areas will be serviced.

The local municipality has finally provided a plan for pothole patching in and around Estcourt.

Residents will be pleased to know that Mr Mkhize states that pothole patching commenced in Bank Road at the beginning of the week.

Pothole repairs will continue until March with areas like Papkuilsfontein, Khwezi, Colita, Forderville, Brewitt Park and Drakensview scheduled for repairs.
